Title: My beachwear experiences
Post by: a_lex on April 18, 2017, 12:07:14 AM
As I wrote in my introduction, I have been wearing thongs for a number of years as underwear. This year this summer will be my fourth one of wearing thongs as swimwear as well. I do regret one thing: not finding the courage of wearing thong swimwear earlier than 26. My advice to all who are considering wearing thong swimwear is this: most of the fears that you have can disappear. Your only concern should be staying on the right side of the law (it's not a problem here in Europe, but from what I read it might be something worth checking out in the USA.

Last summer I only wore thong swimsuits, except one occasion in which my gf and me took to the beach another friend of ours. I wore a brazilian back, as I wasn't sure on our friends' reaction and didn't want to put her at unease. Now in hindsight, I can say I should have worn a thong  ;D I also found myself wanting to try slightly skimpier models. I remember the first time I bought a thong swimsuit, I was really convinced that it should be moderate and look like regular briefs from the front. Now I find it normal to consider wearing g-strings on quiet beaches. I also have thong tanlines; I think they're great, the "mark" of a thong wearer.

Here's a list of the swimwear that I currently own.

-1 swim short. Classic model of "short dork shorts". An old swimsuit which nowadays I only use as coverup from the car to the beach.
-2 swimming briefs. One is skimpier than standard, more low rise. I keep these for the occasions in which I can't wear thong swimwear. Haven't used them for two years.  :)
-1 brazilian back swimsuit. Custom made, skimpy low rise front, brazilian back. I had it done in order to have something that qualifies as "almost thong, but not quite" that would act as my most covering swimsuit.
-1 "speedo thong" swimsuit, with drawstring. Looks like a sort of a skimpy speedo from the front. Probably my most moderate proper thong.
-2 thong swimsuits. Skimpier than the one above, thinner sides.
-1 string-side thong swimsuit (the one you can see in my profile picture)
-1 g string swimsuit (as above, but only string back)

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am envious, as in Australia we are much more conservative than in Europe. I remember last time when I hit the beaches in Europe so many women were topless and in thongs. Next time I come I'll be packing my thongs and in the meantime will try and pluck up some courage here. :)

You have more thong swimsuits than I do. Where did you get your suits?
Also, which part of Italy are you from?

One of my suits is from the famous brand Olaf Benz. Other two were made by a British manufacturer, Halcyon Blue, which now only makes women's swimwear. Their male products have been discontinued. All the rest come from Kriszsartoria, a brand which allows you to have your own custom swimwear and underwear sewn for you. http://www.kriszsartoria.co.uk/
I live in Northeast Italy, on the Adriatic Sea.

I hear that Northern Italy is different from Southern Italy. Like people up North are more friendly and open-minded than people down south. Do you thong on the beach often?

Well, the stereotype would be like this: South Italians are supposed to be friendlier but more traditionalist, whereas North Italians are supposed to be more reserved but more open minded. A leftover from times in which the South was more "rural" and the North more industrialised.

I always thong when I go to the beach - and during summer I go to the beach as often as my job allows me to, which means twice a week if I'm not on holiday. The only times in which I don't wear a thong are the rare occasions in which I'm with someone I don't want to see me in a thong, like my family. In that case, I'll wear a speedo style brief. But these are rare: I never wore a speedo last summer, for example.

You're lucky to live near the coast, and going to the beach twice a week... that's a lot.

I'm "resurrecting" this old thread of mine as I'd like to use this a sort of a beach-thonging diary, and keep reporting here my swimsuit related experiences. I have been away from this forum for a while, yet now I'm back. I'm going to write a couple of lines about my first beach experience of the year.

I thought I was quite conscious of other people seeing me; I know I sometimes tend to look around when I'm on a beach, to see if somebody is looking at me. I don't particularly like this approach of mine and always wish I cared less. But something happened yesterday that made me think I'm less shy than when I started wearing thong swimwear.

As I wrote above, yesterday morning I went to the beach for the first time this year. I was alone and wore a plain black g-string; skimpy, but not teardrop shaped or sheer. I placed myself far from the crowd, on a small pier, since I prefer the quieter aspect of beachgoing. A couple of 60 year old women decided to set up their towels near me, where the pier connects with the land, and ended up asking me whether they were trespassing on private property or not. Long story short, this led to one of those typical chats between neighbouring beachgoers, possibly the longest interaction I had with other strangers while wearing only a skimpy g-string (alone at least; with my gf it's different). There was nothing lewd or exciting going on; what struck me was the spontaneity of this episode. No comments were made about my swimsuit, I made no attempts to hide or cover and so on. When I told my gf  about this, she correctly pointed out that many people don't care for what you're wearing, and what set "tone" of this interaction had probably been the way I acted, being friendly and polite and so on; not what I was (not) wearing. This goes in the same direction of what many fellow thongers here have been reporting for quite some time, of course.

Who knows, maybe in a couple of years I'll find myself thonging right in the middle of my hometown's most crowdy beach.

Well, because of social media and pc culture, people tend to keep their thoughts to themselves. As a society, we're not as vocal as we once were. So, people will not give you shit directly because they don't want to offend you.  They'll probably just bitch and gossip about you.

I was recently on the beach, and I had a pink JS thong on. Even though no one said anything to me, I could hear people whispering and gossiping.

I always try to set camp next to a thonger because there'a safety in numbers.
I'm sure there are many female thongers in Hawaii. Next time you go to the beach, you should just set camp next to a thonger.

Hey, thanks for the feedback!
Asianthonger92 is right; it can feel easier if someone else is doing it. I usually don't specifically place my towel near other thongers, but I can totally see the point of the "safety in numbers" thing. My gf and me wear thongs at the beach both when we go to the sea together and when our job commitments force us to go on our own, and for both of us it was always a little more relaxing when we were not the only ones in skimpy swimwear.
That being said, it can become desirable to become "independent" from the presence of other thongers. It felt very liberating for us both, for example. At some point, you'll eventually have to play the game of going to the beach and only bring with you a thong swimsuit: your only choice will be going nude, or wear the thong.

I always have a beach coverup and agree that its nice to have other thong wearers around.  But usually if i am alone, going to a gay beach is perfect as its sort of expected to have people in minimal swimwear.
The only thing that scares me back into my coverup (which are just really short running shorts) are families with small kids or a bunch of weirdo dudes on a bachelor party or something

I also have a coverup with me, and I wear it from the parking lot to the beach. But I usually take care to choose a pair of shorts that I cannot use as swimwear  ;)
When I go to the beach (both alone and with my gf), I/we tend to arrive early. So even if a family chooses to set up near us, well, that's usually an indicator that my/our attire is not going to be a problem for them. We even ended up becoming acquaintances with a couple of mature ladies who, like us, come to the beach early in order to enjoy some peace and quiet.
There is a sort of a gay beach, underlvr, next to my favourite beach; it's actually a section of a nude beach. But it's quite small, and the cruising action that happens over there isn't exactely something I'm interested in. So, no place where "its sort of expected to have people in minimal swimwear" for me (to use your words). Unfortunately.

If you cannot find a group, just go early in the morning when there is no people on the beach. And if you want to avoid families, just go to the beach during the week.

Hey man, if I lived in Hawaii, I’d go to the beach everyday. You’re living in an area that is ideal for thonging. Make the most of it.

After I got used to wearing thongs and g-strings, I did not care much where I stayed at the beach. I stayed away from kids, teens and families. Being retired I went during the week and during school holidays, I went to places that were not easily accessed by car. That prevented families with large cooling boxes and other beach gear.

When I lived in Holland, if I had to find a spot near other thongers, I was still looking by now. I don't care how other people are dressed or not dressed at all. I go for my own pleasure. In Europe, only some teens and drunks might have comments about your thongs. In the USA, the situation is more restricted and in some places covered by law. That is unthinkable in Europe. So I was glad to find a spot at Sandy Hook that was very relaxed in the field of skimpy suits.

I think that's something I need to do, just don't bring anything but a thong.  I would go as a group, but honestly, there are NO other thong wearers here except girls, and sad to say, except the gf, most women don't seem to like it.  I'll keep on trying.  For now, I've just been working on it in the yard.

As Beachlion said before, if you wait to find a group of thongers, you might end up waiting a long time. My advice is still the same: get to the beach early, so you can set up your space, and only take thong swimwear with you. I hope you'll end up loving it!

I live in south Florida. It is basically thong weather year round. That being said I rarely see other guys in thongs and I go to the beach a lot.  The two I go to are Sebastian Beach in Fort Lauderdale and Haulover beach.
Sebastian beach for those who don't know is a predominately a gay beach.  I am actually surprised and the number of what I would consider are ugly swimsuits. Especially in the gay culture. There are equal number of board shorts (blah) and square cuts. If a bikini its usually the wider side style. Rarely a string or posing suit style. Why are guys so afraid of showing their bodies off.  This never stops from wearing a thong. I wear them like any other style of swimwear.  If someone has a problem with it .. its their problem.  Its taken some time for me to get to this point. We all walk a different path.
Haulover Beach in North Miami Beach is clothing optional.   I would say 20% still wear some type of swimwear.  I prefer this beach.  There are usually no kids and occasionally I see another thonger or two.  I walk the entire beach which is 4 or 5 blocks wide in just my thong.  People sometimes ask why I don't go nude. I tell them that  I don't want to lose my tan line also I think something left to the imagination is sexier than being nude.  Yes if I show up and there is another thonger I will set up near him. Often I am the only one in a thong and on my walks along the beach I'm always looking.
Maybe the thong culture will change and more guys will wear a thong.  We can only hope!!

Thank you for sharing! Agreed, it's an uphill battle to get it socially accepted, but that's part of why I use them as well. Those the scoff and make funny faces are bigots in my honest opinion. I'm all for female rights, freedoms, and equality, but if they can use them, we can too. Simple as that.

I frequent a beach in Florida where I can model my skimpy swimwear. That's pretty much modeling to myself as I walk a fair distance to be alone. Usually one or two guys will show up and take their clothes off except the thongs they are wearing. Once I had the courage to walk close to one of the guys. He saw me, walk towards me, and we engage in conversation. My heart was racing as he was the first person that I had allowed to see me in a thong. It was liberating!

Like a few others have suggested - try  going way from the main crowd at the beach and look for other guys in bikinis or thong swimsuits.   Be confident and don't worry about showing some skin at the beach.

As long as it is legal don't worry too much. Walk around in your thong or g-string and get used to the feeling. Build up your confidence and don't be afraid to be around other people. Stay away from kids as their parents can be quite hysteric when it comes to showing some skin.

As the original owner of this thread, I'll start writing again about my experiences at the beach.
I went to the seaside a couple of times in the last two weeks. As I prefer my beaches to be quiet and peaceful, I went during working days' mornings, thanks to my job being part time for the moment. My goal this summer is to get a perfect, as defined as possible g-string tanline - I'm falling in love with the look. So far, then, I always went to the beach bringing only a g-string as my swimsuit. And as I expected I ended up sharing my favourite pier with the same couple of 60/70-year old ladies as last year. They have been even friendlier than last summer, greeting me and engaging in small talk (I must say, I do tend to be polite with everyone). My attire never drew any type of comment. I guess you could say we're all territorial animals  ;D But hey, it's a nice place for sunbathing, so I don't mind sharing.

It’s good that you’re engaging in small talk. Italians are known to be friendly and chatty. You don’t get that in Canada. Canadians are polite, but they’re also mindful of others.

It’s so hard to have small talk these days. We’re living in a smartphone era and people are always on their phones.

When I lived in the Netherlands, I was never good in small talk. A conversation with strangers would completely dry up in minutes in general. Now in the USA it is only getting worse as my English is not as fluent as my Dutch.

When I first wore a thong to the beach at 18 I was nervous but felt this rush of excitement. I wore thongs because I liked how they looked on me and when I put one on I felt this pulse of sexuality. I went like 5 days in a row and had full tan lines. When I got home I stood in front of the mirror and couldn’t believe how sexy I felt.

The next day I went out and bought 20 pairs of thong underwear and wear nothing else. At 45 my beach thongs are a thin strap with a y back and look great

Haulover beach is my favorite. Were I living in Miami or Fort Lauderdale area, I would probably go there everyday because nobody would judge you no matter what you wear. Every time I have a vacation in the area, I visit that beach on a daily basis. I especially found men’s swimsuits at that beach are very interesting. And I feel wearing something is always sexier than wearing nothing.

100% agree - i don’t like the nude look on a beach either.  The right swimwear can add so much to a look.

I went out to my local beach early yesterday. On my way I got a text from a woman I know asking if I was going to be there. She then texted that she and her friend would be there and asked me to join them. I got there first set up and they arrived shortly after. They both are aware of my swimwear choices and are not only accepting but very much approve of my choice. We were set up in a fairly busy part of the beach. As soon as I took off my short shorts revealing the thong of the day (Buffedbod Hoist thong). I was told that my suit was cute and they very much liked this one. As the day went on we had  some other people join us (family with adult children 18-21 and the wife‘s sister). I went into the water a few times with everyone. All were very open to what I wore, even happy that I was exposing more cheek that any one else on the beach. It was one of the best days I’ve had at the beach in a long time. We were all laughing, telling stories and enjoying the sun. We had several discussions about Nude beaches in America. Had I been to any, yes. What were they like? Where was the closest one? There were a few discussions about swimwear and what people preferred to wear and why. Some the conversation turned a bit risqué, all in good fun.

Very good experience.

That’s an awesome experience thanks for sharing!

I'm at the beach right now, and I see lots of women in cheekies. There are a handful of women in traditional t-back thongs and I see one girl in a g-string. I'm the only guy in a thong.

What's it like at your local beach(es)?

I'm the only one in a thong or g-string at my favorite beach. To be honest, I'm also the only one using the beach. I might see a 10 people, fishing or walking.

Yesterday I was on my local beach friends it’s a friend (she doesn’t thong). I was wearing one of my Arroyman thongs. We were set up mid beach and it was very active. There were multiple families, couples and groups all around us. I got a couple of double take looks and a couple of positive comments. The biggest surprise was a positive comment from a man wearing mid calf board shorts (if you can call them shorts). With a big smile he let me know that I was rocking the look.

What an amazing day at the beach. I met two of my friends there this morning. Both women were set up mid beach right in the heart of things. I walked out to meet them and set up my chair and towels. We spent the day laughing, talking, listening to music and going for swims. I walked in and out of the water just like everyone else at the beach. I was the only one wearing a thong. The women I was with were very happy to have my company and loved my thong.

Good thing you had some company. Where's the swimsuit from?

The suit is from Buffedbod.com
I very much like these thongs. The one I’m wearing is the Hoist and fits superbly.

My only minimal swimwear experiences on the beach is when visiting FL. Sadly here in NC/SC, thongs are tough for me to wear. I am either with my wife and kids or on a fishing trip with the guys. Not the best places to wear minimal swimwear. I have worn my Brazilian bikinis and cheeky thongs on the beach in Ft Lauderdale and Miami with my wife. I have also worn tiny gstrings on Haulover Beach in FL. Here are a couple of those pictures.

Great photos. Just a question. When you went to Miami, were you the only male thonger on the beach? Did you get any weird looks?

I was at Miami Beach so north of South Beach. There were other guys in bikinis but none in thongs. My wife and I kept to ourselves on the beach and I didn't notice anyone paying any attention to my attire. I would say similar to other FL beaches. There are certainly lots more women wearing thongs and I guarantee you that they are telling their male significant others that they should be wearing a thong too!

I met a friend at the beach the other day. As I was setting up my chair and stripping down to my beachwear I noticed a woman down the beach a little bit struggling with setting up a beach shade/tent. She was having a devil of a time trying to get it flooded out and set up. She and I have had a few nice words on past visits. As I watch her struggle I tell my friend I and going to go help. I am wearing my new N2N popsicle raider thong in neon green. I walk up say hi and ask if she would like a hand. She says “yes please.” I take the beach tent and get to work. I get everything I place I have one last step to do. I crawl in to the opening on my hands and knees to set the last rods in place. Behind me I hear “you have the cutest suits all the time. I like this one.” As I get out she thanks me and gives me a big hug and the puts her arm around my waist as we talk with my friend who has walked over to see how things are going. Next thing I feel is a hand on my butt cheek giving me a squeeze and a couple of playful slaps. I go back to my chair with my friend. Her friends show up and they do their thing.
