Title: New to thongs. Need guidance
Post by: explorer on March 22, 2021, 12:49:01 PM
Hi everyone!

I am quite new to men thongs. I know this is a very long post, but I really need some guidance. But before that it's important that I share the background with you all. I wore my first thong around 6 months ago.

Background

I am/was a regular briefs wearer. An year ago I didn't know that men thongs even exist.

Being a regular briefs wearer doesn't mean I am satisfied with that style. I felt most briefs style too restrictive in the front area. It gives support, but squish the stuff too much. Same problem with boxer briefs. Once I tried boxers, but didn't like the unsupported dangling feel. Since then I thought briefs might be the best that is available for men. That was a compromise.

How it started?

My girlfriend wears thongs occasionally. It was always a turn on for me to see her in thong, but I had no slightest clue that man thongs exist.

6 months ago, she gave me a package and asked me to wear it, and she herself went to the other room to change. I opened the package. It had 2 tiny underwear in red and black. I thought it's women's thongs, but noticed the pouch in front. I wore it without thinking too much as I was focusing more on the action that was gonna happen next.

After the sex, both of us normally wear our underwear to go to sleep. So, I wore that thong and felt really good in the front (while a bit odd feeling in the back). First thing I thought was "Why can't they make normal underwear front like this?" I asked her why did she gift me this, she said "Just like men find them sexy on women, women too find them hot on men".

The Eureka moment!

After few days, while getting ready in the morning, I realized I have ran out of clean underwear. Then, I thought to give that thong a try. After first hour of adjusting the back strap, I almost forgot I was wearing any underwear, while my stuff felt relaxed, supported and not squished. I smiled and thought - I found the most comfortable underwear! Why I didn't know about this? Why I never see this underwear type in stores or online? Why I always thought Thong is a women thing? When I wore it, it didn't feel feminine at all. In fact, it felt manlier than a brief or boxer brief because of the front pouch. It was like a revelation for me.

But, eh..

I started wearing those thongs for 2-3 hours a day. After 4-5 days, I started feeling a bit uncomfortable in the back. I realized the crack has got itchy and sensitive. While I liked the support and freedom in front, the fabric made few other things worse (sweaty junk). I realized that these thongs were made of some synthetic material (nylon or polyester) and it was hot.

I was very disappointed, because as I felt that I found the perfect underwear style for me, I realized it was far from it. Are men thongs a novelty product only? Don't they make it for everyday wear?

The research begins

I opened Amazon and started searching for thongs. I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see men thongs available online. I wamted to avoid cheaper ones, so I ordered a HOM and a Cocksox. When the package arrived, I got disappointed again as the HOM was restrictive in front and it just had a thread in the back, while the Cocksox was pushing my stuff too much in the front.

I ordered a Doreanse, and it was also too tight in front. Well, I had thought that thongs have a comfy front by design, but I was so wrong.

I then started googling about men thongs to understand if men thongs are actually perceived as comfortable daily underwear, and I only heard such great things focusing on comfort and style. So, where did I go wrong?

Then, I came across this forum. I realized there are a lot of experienced thong wearers here. So, I wanted to understand what's the key to find a perfect thong? Do you guys find thongs comfortable? Should I look for a specific brand? Specific fabric?

I could have given off easily, but I still believe that the structure of a thong makes it a perfect underwear. I just don't realise where is it going wrong.

First congratulations on discovering things and this forum. I hope you find the help you seek.

It think for many of us our first thongs were both exciting and disappointing. Like you finding a thong that is supportive up front and not restrictive is a great thing. Having a partner accept and promote your wearing of thongs is wonderful. But our first thongs often were the wrong size for us, the wrong material or the wrong cut. The beat thing to find the right thing is by trial and error, way too often. For sizing pay attention to your waist size and the size guide of the manufacturer. Just because you wear one size, say medium, for one company you may not wear that size from a different company. Next take a look at the material. Do you prefer cotton, rayon, a synthetic, nylon or something else.

For an all day comfort thong you might want to start with cotton. For me one of the most comfortable cotton thong’s is from N2N Bodywear. If looking at Amazon I’d suggest trying iKingsky (pay attention to the sizing guides as they change slightly for different styles). I suspect there are many of us that have a number of thongs in our drawer that we thought looked sexy/interesting/attractive and once they arrived we found the fit not quite right. It happens. Sometimes the rear strap is to long or to short making the thong uncomfortable. Sometimes the pouch is to restrictive or to loose. Once you find the right fit for you you may well discover you prefer thongs to any other form of underwear.  For me, I wear a thong every day. They are comfortable, sexy and supportive while being non-restrictive.

I would not say you went wrong. I would say you are in the discovery phase. Some things to consider May be:
Ergowear
N2N Bodywear
iKingsky
Greg Homme
Covermale
Daniel Alexander
Magic Slik
Male Power
Joe Snyder
Andrew Christian
C-in2

This is only a partial list. I’m sure others here have favorites and other suggestions.

Hey Explorer, welcome and well done for wanting to try out thongs.

Think about wearing a shirt. There's lots of different makes and models and fits, right? With thongs it's pretty much the same. The only difference is that the fit is even more important since thongs are underwear. Not only that, but there are different factors that contribute to make a specific model of thong underwear comfortable or not; fabric, fit, type of stitching (which is soo important to make a thong comfortable in the backside). It took me some trial and error to find the models I like the best.

My advice is trying thongs from Olaf Benz. They're not cheap, but the quality is really great. They're one of my favourite makers and their products are comfortable for all day wear. Good luck!

Like the other members mentioned, try different brands and styles. I have a few thongs from jockey. My favorite brand is Obviously. The material is super soft and supportive and the back doesn't bother me a bit. Almost feels like I'm not wearing anything, but my crown jewels are getting the support they need.

We have all been down the same road that you have traveled. I would venture to say that most significant others did NOT buy our first thong for us. You should feel special that your significant other wants to see you in a thong.

Don't give up on them, you will find thongs that look great on you and will make you feel like you aren't wearing anything. Getting the right style and size is of utmost importance. This board is great to ask questions and get opinions on brands and styles. Don't be shy, share some pictures and ask some questions and everyone will be happy to offer their opinions and suggestions.

Thanks for all encouraging responses.

I am glad to hear that it's not just me, but a very common struggle for most of the folks to find the perfect thong. I am all up for trial and error.

Wow. I never really thought about the fabric of underwear (you may call me ignorant). But, to your question RCBlue, I checked my undies and all my briefs are made of either Cotton or Cotton + elastene. So, I guess I should look for Cotton thongs.

Regarding these brands, I am able to find Olaf Benz, iKingsy and few others on Amazon. Btw, I live in Germany (moved here few years ago), so I am not sure if most of other recommended brands are niche American brands because I couldn't find on Amazon DE.

I have already added ikingsy, Olaf Benz and Bruno Banani thongs in my cart. Will place the order today :)

Another thing I am looking for in thongs is that they should look  smart and sober (I know I am being picky), as I want something that I could potentially wear as a daily underwear. I and my gf sometimes walk around the apartment in our Tees and undies. With briefs, I have to keep on adjusting the front. I actually liked the look of ikingsy and Olaf Benz and hope they would be perfect for everyday wear.

Regarding the partner supporting this, I really appreciate my gf for this. In fact, we both are open with this. I often compliment on her new undies. Initially, she recommended me to try boxers. She knows that I liked thongs when she gifted me but am unable to find comfy models. Few days ago, she was searching on the internet for "most comfortable men's thongs" and was recommending me few styles. We started looking at those together - liked a few, while laughed at others.

Welcome to the club so to speak!  As many have mentioned, most of us have been right where you are and once you find the fit that is perfect for you, it is very likely you won't go back.

Being in Germany, you have some access to some very nice, high end thongs.  Olaf Benz is one of my favorites and are amazing for all day wear.  I find them extremely comfortable and they have many styles that will fill your "smart and sober" description.  With the right fit/material, you will find there will be very little adjustment needed.  Pay attention to the amount of spandex/elastane in the mix.  This will change how the pouch holds you and you will just have to find what mix you like.

Best of luck and sounds like your gf is a keeper!

Good to know that you have support from your partner. When I started wearing thongs, I had to hide them because my parents were strict.

If you're a novice thonger, I suggest you get wide back thongs with a roomy front. G-string type thongs can be uncomfortable because the strap can cut too deep into the crack and cause irritation. Whereas, if you wear a wide back thong, the strap just sits between your cheeks.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Kraig. I have already ordered Olaf Benz. Eagerly waiting for it. Any other recommendations for brands or websites that sell in Europe?

Thanks kiyoothong. Yes, I think that's the reason I found HOM thong uncomfortable, because although it looked like a thong, but had a thin string at the back. I really liked the back of Doreanse 1216 thong. The back strap just slipped perfectly inside my cheeks without any annoyance (but was bothered by almost negligible front space).

I actually liked the look of ikingsy and Olaf Benz and hope they would be perfect for everyday wear.

I can vouch for the ikingsky as daily wear.  Don’t be shy about the “big pouch” description. Just means that it won’t smush your stuff into a pouch the size of a lime.

I have been wearing thongs and g strings on and off for 20 plus years.  Like another member said, the wider straps can be more comfortable,  but now, I prefer the smallest strap.

I also threw out all of my other underwear styles  and only have thongs and g strings. I wear ikingsky now.  They are pretty good, but I have not found too many that I don't like, but I must say that I like ikingsky pretty good.

Size and material are and have been important for me through the years.

Good luck!

Will share my experience.

So, the package arrived few minutes ago. I would say the initial feedback is positive so far!

Bruno Banani

The fabric feels good and premium. After wearing it, it felt more like a swimwear. The front is very tight. There is literally no space in front, and the back string is going too deep. Overall, disappointed. Not something I was looking for.

Olaf Benz

This one's thin and soft. I was hopeful. After wearing, I felt good. The space in front is optimal, and the back string feel good too. Yeah!

ikingsky

Now, this one's a winner! Amazingly soft fabric. I just fell in love with how it supported my stuff without squishing it, and how the back string disappeared in my cheeks. Doesn't look as premium as Olaf Benz, but is super comfy. I am glad there are 6 of these! I am excited to show all 8 pairs to my gf.

As I am writing this, I am wearing the black ikingsky. I can't thank you guys enough for the suggestions. I think I could wear ikingsky and Olaf Benz as daily underwear. I have never felt so comfortable in an underwear ever in my life.

Glad you found a few thongs that work well for you. I have to agree the iKingsky thongs are very comfortable. Now that you found daily wear thong you may never go back ;-)
Hope your GF enjoys as well.

Glad you like the ikingsky thongs.  They are my favorite right now.  As I said, I transitioned to only thongs and g strings since the first few days of 2021.  I have not looked back and I now only think of them as underwear and not thongs.

I don't try to show it, but if the situation comes up at a doctor's appointment that requires me to reveal my underwear,  then I will and not care.

Good luck with trying other thongs and who knows maybe g strings in the future.

Thank you both.

So my experience with ikingsky yesterday was great. First time I wore a thong continuously for 4-5 hours! I had to take it off as I felt a bit uneasy in the back. I think it will take few days to get used to. 4-5 hours in one go is great! In these 5 hours, I didn't once adjust the front or the back strap.

Regarding uneasyness in the butt crack, I am not sure if I am wearing it correctly. Do you guys put the back strap deep into the crack?

Today I am wearing Olaf Benz thong. Been 4 hours and feels like I am not wearing anything. I squatted after wearing it, I think it might be the right way to adjust the back strap.

Meeting my gf in some time. Will model all these new pairs :)

Yes, I deeply wear a strip of thong between the buttocks. After I put on the thong, I spread my buttocks to the sides with my hands so that the strip takes its place. At the same time, it penetrates as deeply as possible between the buttocks.

I let the strap sit naturally where it goes.  I don't force it anywhere.

I would think in a week you will be wearing thongs for the whole day. It took about a week for me to get used to the feeling.

Thanks. Squatting after wearing the thong worked I guess. Or, Olaf Benz is awesome. I wore it for around 8-10 hours without adjusting a thing! The comfort while I was wearing it was beyond my imagination. My jewels must be thanking me for this switch. They were literally squished for most of their life with those flat front briefs.

Yesterday afternoon, gf came over. I modelled all pairs for her. She liked them all and said "wow" to some colors. I also got a fabric tip from her - ikingsky ones are made of modal fabric, which turns out to be her fav undie fabric as well. And most of her thongs (CK, Tommy) are modal ones. Looking at all the colors, she said "now you can also wear matching T-shirts and thongs like me" :D

Coming back to Olaf Benz thong, I had to remove it in the middle of the night, as I felt slight uncomfortable. I am suspecting it could be due to hair. May be few more days and I would be wearing it again after waking up in the morning. Few more days, and I will be wearing it for the whole day. Fingers crossed.

Many find that shaving or trimming very close makes thongs more comfortable. I know you are new to wearing thongs so shaving might be a bit much right now as well. You are right about the modal material. It is great and very comfortable. Ikingsky thongs are wonderfully comfortable.

Good to know that you've found some thongs that are comfortable, and it's great that your gf has been supportive.

I never have the strap deep into the crack. I always pull out the strap and adjust the back before I put on trousers. I know there are some who prefer to have the strap deep into the crack, so I'd say this is just a personal preference.

Updating the thread with recent progress.

Well, the progress has been great so far. I am wearing thongs almost everyday. For 3-4 days a week, I am wearing it throughout the day. During other days, I had to switch to briefs in the middle of the day because of uneasiness in the butt crack. I think it wil go away as well.

I am truly loving the feel of thong underwear (or rather the feel that I am not wearing anything). It's super comfortable for my jewels and I almost forget that I have a string in my cheeks. I even slept wearing these without any problems. With briefs, it used to be uncomfortable while waking up in the morning (you know what I mean). But with thongs, the lack of tight waistband is a boon.

Another positive of my thong wearing is something that I hadn't expected. Once I started wearing thongs, my gf has also ditched her bikini undies completely for thongs. And somehow, this has positively impacted our physical relationship.

This week I am planning to buy few more and hopefully thongs will displace briefs to become the dominant style in my drawer.

I am about a month late and did not read all the other posts but just wanted to throw my 2 cents in the bunch.

There are two styles I really like, one is ergowear and their max light thong. It is made of micro modal and in my opinion the only fabric underwear should be made of. They have some other fabrics that I like as well but this is a good all rounder.

Daniel Alexander has a cheeky thong a couple different styles something like a DAK028 or a DAK046. Very nice shimmery fabric and the best feeling thong for sitting in an office chair or going on road/plane trips. I know when I lived in the UK I had no problem ordering from either of their sites directly though it is international shipping so it takes a bit of time to deliver, probably even more with the covid restrictions.

I would recommend these for a first timer. It really depends on your own body if you need a certain style of back or waist band or pouch. I know these work great for me.

A new brand that I like a lot is Ace and Indigo which is a sub company of Body Aware. I never ordered any of these while I was living in the UK so I can not vouch for the international shipping.

Anyhow give these a look. Welcome to the fun world of alternative underwear styles for men.

I did just want to add that manscaping is another thing that really helps out with wearing thongs. This is another learning curve to figure out what is the best way to manscape for you but it is just a journey really. Good luck, and have fun.

Updating this thread after more than a month. It was a mixed month with respect to my thong wearing. I started wearing it everyday, and IIRC I wore it everyday (day and night) for 2 weeks. I then developed soreness and pain in the area between hole and balls. Also developed some pain on the tailbone. Now, I tried not to let this impact my enthusiasm for thongs. From all the posts I have read in this forum, I knew something I was doing was not right. It could be the size, quality, fabric, hair, or string width. I figured out a Bruno Banani thong was the culprit. It was very tight and constricting, and was made of nylon kind of material. I immediately dumped it in the trash box.

After the soreness recovered, I started wearing thongs during days only (not while sleeping). It was difficult because I feared that soreness and pain would come again. But I was determined as well.

I bought few other thongs as well. I really likes the back strap of a Doreanse thong (which has a very very thin waistband and appears like a brief from the front). So, I have been wearing thongs everyday, but cautiously.

I am about a month late and did not read all the other posts but just wanted to throw my 2 cents in the bunch.

Anyhow give these a look. Welcome to the fun world of alternative underwear styles for men.

Thanks for the guidance irthonger. I haven't yet got ergowear, but I am considering buying this as I also saw some positive reviews on a YouTube channel.

One problem I am facing with buying thongs is regarding fabric. I am seeing a lot of thongs have nylon, polyester or polyamide fabric. Does anyone know the difference? Are these fabric good or bad as underwear fabric? My perception is that all three are same, and not good for underwear. They might be good for jog, gym or swim, but not at all good for daily wear.

Should I just keep to cotton, modal and bamboo fabric? I really loved the way Ace Indigo undies (micro modal) look. They look premium and comfy. I found they are available on a UK website. But a bit expensive, so thinking twice before ordering one.

Regarding manscaping, it gives me jitters. I do shave the front and balls regularly, but I guess it's the back shaving that might help with thong issues. I once shaved in the crack using razor, and it was horrible itching for next few days! Does laser removal work for anal hair?

the material of the fabric is not that important. Mostly it is the size and pattern of the weave. mixing in spandex is great for a good stretch. I don't like cotton normally but I did find a really nice n2n thong that was really thin and stretchy. I have also had very soft and stretchy nylon thongs as well. It really all depends on the brand and how they make the fabric.

I will say that I normally go for modal. The ace and indigo ones you can not go wrong with. That fabric is buttery smooth and stretchy and the waist band looks very classy. I really can't recommend them enough. they are really really good.

ergowear is also amazing, more of a sporty look to them rather than classy but they really are cut perfectly and just have a classic mens thong look. really you can't go wrong with either imo

Hello everyone. Some positive updates.

Fear and social stigma
Up until mid June, I had been wearing thongs on and off. I would not wear thongs when I had wore them for 2-3 consecutive days (sometimes just to be safe from any irritation/itch issue i had before). Also, when i was out with my friends or gf during weekends or in a park, I would wear briefs just to avoid any peek from the behind when I bend. To avoid thongs hanging on the drying rack, I would stop wearing them for few days.

Then I realised I am still not free from my fear and social taboos. I like wearing thongs, they are super comfortable, my gf loves me in thongs, and it even made our sex life more exciting. So, why I am scared of wearing it! It's not that I am wearing a swim thong. Underwear is such a personal thing, and why I should sacrifice my comfort to keep others (read strangers) happy.

Liberation
There was something that was not letting me switch completely to thongs. It was my rest of the underwear drawer. So 2 weeks ago, I took the plunge and threw all my briefs in the trashbox. I knew there would be days when I might not want to have a string in my butt. So I bought 2 pairs of boxers, becuase I would only wear boxers when it's super urgent.  So, now my underwear drawer has only thongs and 2 boxers.

This is such a liberating feeling. Now, after bath I don't have to think if I should wear a thong or a brief today. Fun fact: My gf has more briefs than I have (few dozens : zero) 😄

I think now I can call myself a thongist (if that's even a word). It's a wonderful type of undie that screams sexy+comfort. I am spending whole day without even feeling that I am wearing anything constricting. My jewels must be thanking me a lot.

I would like to thank everyone in this forum who gave such helpful suggestions and kept encouraging.

Question
I have a weird question. Considering everyone here is open to questions and is helpful, I hope I will get an answer. How do you manage hygiene after going to the toilet? For me, I have not yet been able to overcome the feeling of string in cheeks right after the morning toilet routine. So, I immediately go to bath, clean up and then wear the new thong. How do you all maintain the hygeine?

If I'm wearing a thong I like to use flushable bum wipes like from cottonelle or I prefer dude wipes. You use toilet paper, then the wipe, and toilet paper again if you choose.  Plus bum wipes come in travel packs where you can slip one in your pocket while out of the house.

I have a bidet installed at home. And also use a travel bidet for when I am on vacation.

Once on a golf trip with the guys to Kohler, WI and Whistling Straits golf course, I went to use the public restroom in the hotel we were staying at and there was a bidet. The lid was down and I reached down to raise it and it popped right up automatically. Had a control panel on the wall where you could control the water flow, water temperature and many other things. It was an awesome experience and I would love to have a bidet at my home.

I also have a bidet and I usually take a shower after I take care of business.

Thanks for all the responses.

I am looking to buy some more thongs. Had almost finalized buying Ace and Indigo, but unfortunately all their thongs are sold out in size M (on UK website). :(

I also came across Zonbailon thongs on Amazon. Does anyone have tried these? They look good but not sure about the quality and comfort.

Hi all. I logged back to the forum after almost an year now. I wanted to share an update because it was the guidance of this group's members that helped me find the right thongs and convinced me that thongs are indeed the best undies out there for men.

I can now call myself a thonger. Although i only wear thong underwear, not swimwear (don't have courage :D). Thong is now like a regular underwear for me. I am only bothered when I am few days past my laundry day and have to wear those flat front briefs. First thing I do that day is the laundry! Haha

Nice, I hope you got more than 2 now. also, when I lived in the UK I had no issues getting anything shipped there from the states. You just have to wait a bit longer. You can check the US websites of companies as well. For years all my underwear came from chile. lol.

I'll just add my two pence worth while I'm here.

Glad to hear that you are now a true thonger. While I haven't tried as many brands as many thongers here, I can say that my favourite is the Doreanse 1330 G-String. It's a modal mix so very soft and comfortable. The pouch is minimal in size but readily stretches to accommodate men of most sizes. It's a true G-String with little other fabric but the waist and under straps are very comfy and I can wear them 24/7.

My current favourites are Olaf Benz mini string and a non-branded Chinese thong called Zonbailon. I just love the bamboo fabric. Only gripe is fabric loses its elasticity in few washes.

Somehow my experience with Doreanse hasn't been great. I feel everything is good with their thongs except the space in pouch. I bought 4 different thong styles and all of them were very tight in the pouch area. They've got best designs and fabric for sure. May be, I'll try to upsize and order L next time.

I recommend "Muscleskins.com". Their 'poser' with a narrow pouch, standard depth and 1/2 inch sides works well for me. Lots of fabric choices, colors and all are customizable.  They seem to be pretty well made and prices are reasonable. Good luck.

I highly recommend Obviously thongs (www.obviouslyapparel.com) and the new Cocksox Modal Fabric thong is AMAZING too. N2N Bodywear has many great thongs in a variety of materials and designs too.

If I had to add to the list of companies to get thongs from I would say give JM thongs a go from Canada, they are my go to regular wear thongs for everyday wearing, they give you that feeling of not wearing anything.

On the subject of string or g-string style thongs I would highly recommend Barcode Berlin ones, German company but products ship from Portugal but ship round Europe very quickly, I did think that they were gone be uncomfortable as I'm not a fan of g-string's or string thongs but their Miran style string thongs are SUPER COMFORTABLE, highly recommended.
