One summer I was at an extended family get-together. At one point I was sitting at a table with some cousins and their spouses. I forget how this came up in conversation, but I wanted to show my female cousin sitting beside me my appendectomy scar. Without thinking, I pulled down the waistband of my shorts. She exclaimed loudly and vehemently, "YOU'RE WEARING A THONG???!!!" Everyone else, who couldn't see it, just stared at me and said nothing (unusually for my family). She murmured, "Sorry" and looked away. I was pretty embarrassed. I don't know whether the others were amused or disgusted or what. I don't know whether anyone present has told anyone else. No-one has ever said anything about it.

but at least youre out with it and don't have to worry anymore.. :)

Totally agree - I would have died in that moment. OR i would have said something like 'no its not, the waistband ripped' or something like that. But now that its out there, who cares, they know what to expect!

It is just a piece of underwear. Why is everybody so disturbed by it. I'm out in the open in g-strings (see avatar) and I'm not tarred and feathered or hit by lightning. I even got a few compliments. So grow up and behave as if it is your daily routine (what it should be).
Well, it helps if you are born in Europe. ;)
So if somebody sees your thong or string and makes a loud comment about it, just say something like: yes, it is a thong, it is underwear so what about it? There is no need to be embarrassed at all.

I think its not always that easy. sometimes you get embarrassed and cant say a word.

agree - not that easy to just play it off as your regular routine b/c it's not everyone's go-to...and/or there are more people out there who are conservative too! I'm not shy anymore about changing at the gym...its a big gym and mixed too

You should be prepared for this kind of situations. If you have a few returns ready then you can answer it as if it was not that freaky at all. If you show embarrassment or guilt, it amplifies their idea of thongs as being creapy. And remember: peer-pressure is always a bad thing. When people are around, they try to answer the way they think they are supposed to. In private they might even like it. ;)

yes but its different when you think about it and you think you wouldn't be embarrassed but when the confrontation comes.. its a different story :D

I often think about this. Pretty sure if someone from work spotted my song actually said something about it my first instinct would probably be to cover up but ultimately I hope my response would be that its just underwear and even show them the strap. If it were a male I would suggest how comfortable they are and that they should genuinely give it a try. If it were a female I suppose I would have to assess the tensional legal qualm of showing my underwear

My wife knows abt my thong collection and really hates it so I gotta keep it on the DL and change/take thong selfies behind locked doors :(

So it's cool though. Your MIL knows about your thong collection and she even does laundry for you. What is there to worry about?
I think my mom knows that I wear thongs. She must have seen my thongs when we lived together. We don't live together but she gets me boxers whenever she visits me.

I would have turned beet red if that happened to me - oh wait something like that DID happen....
I’m in my early 20s...so just a couple yrs ago when i was in my last year of college, i came home for Xmas and since the house was nice and warm and i had been used to sleeping in a thong my last year of school...i missed wearing one to bed. So when i got home i just continued wearing thongs to bed, under my usual clothes etc...one morning i slept later than usual. Mom popped my door open and said come down to breakfast...pretty normal other than i was basically lying face down on top of my sheets in a red thong. I thought that i was in the clear until i needed to do laundry the next day...i threw in about 7 thongs...all into the wash then dryer and thought i timed the dry cycle but when i go back the dryer was empty and there were my clothes, folded in my room and all of my thongs on top! OMG I was dying inside....thought nobody would mention anything but mom when i was heading back to school mentioned something to the effect that at least i’d Save money by washing smaller clothes.
Yup, i turned red just as i was being dropped off at the airport....wow. Hasn’t come up since though...but now i’m MUCH more comfortable in my own...thongs.

On another occasion, my thong ended up wrapped up in my preschooler’s sheet that we take to school for nap time. At pickup, the afternoon teacher said “I left something of yours in the cubby.” She has wrapped it up so that it wasn’t readily obvious. I was surprised she hadn’t assumed it to be my wife’s thong, but it really doesn’t bother me who knows. I view each “outting” as a chance to further reduce the stigma.

Nothing outed but i do wear my thongs to bed when at my parent’s place and a few friends in the old hood know about my preference of underwear and swimwear as i’ve Thonged at the pool nearby etc before. Mom found out when i was 20 and came home from college with some new thongs, she tried to fold them and leave on top of my laundry that she didn’t tell me she was going to do ( I was going to do it and NOT have this moment!)...small thongs are tough to fold...she must have been really focusing!
