I would say if it was at a beach or anywhere else that it is normal to not wear outer clothing then go for it. If you are walking around your neighborhood or something that you would normally be wearing cloths I would not try to do it. Thongs are amazing and exciting but that doesn't mean that you should treat them any different than normal underwear or swimwear. Just my two cents though. You do you.

When I was stationed in Germany, I used to walk through their forest trails in a thong.  I started riding a bike there and would get to a trail and strip down to a thong.  I rode past several people on the trails wearing thongs. 

It was very exhilarating.
